Overall Experience: Before tonight’s episode I was excited to continue last week’s story. This weeks episode did that on a certain, but disappointing, level. When last week we saw Sayid back from the dead. I know that was the crescendo of the entire season premier, but I cared more about what was happening outside that little Mayan-like temple. I wanted to know what was to come with Richard, Ben, and Evil Locke (For lack of a better name).
I think this newest episode faltered in certain key areas. The first mistake- focusing on Kate. She’s boring. I’ve always felt her story ran out of juice in season four. How many times are we going to see her escape and beat the junk out of guys twice her size? I know Kate is a strong woman, but come on. To Kate’s credit this episode showed her more compassionate side, but the most interesting part of the Kate focused episode-Claire.
Ready to track and kick Other tail
Claire, the slightly annoying, pregnant Australian girl added a few enigma’s to the whole story. The scene in her room with the doctor gave hints that the tentacles of the explosion that ended season 5 reached much farther than just those on flight 815. The lives of everyone on the island changed. Perhaps even Jacob and Man in Black.
Just like in the premier, we see “other dimensional echos” happen to the L.A. Losties [MAN! That sounded dorky]. I’m interested to see how these “Echos” play out. I feel that by midseason these two dimensions will start to collide [Fringe anyone?].
Back at the temple it was good to see Jack stepping up and being the leader we’ve known him to be. Jack’s departure from that last season seemed to put him on the back burner. I’m very curious to see where the writers take the Sayid story line. Is Sayid evil? It’s very hard to tell. I mean, really, who is actually evil on this island? Sometimes I feel evil is a very relative term in Lost. I have faith the writers will start wrapping up the story lines quickly [Even though using the word “wrapping” makes me sad].
By far the most interesting and emotional part of the episode was how Sawyer was dealing with the loss of Juliet. It was eye opening to see the con-man wanting to put all that aside to become a family man. I really feel for the guy. Lost excels when I connect with a character on a deep personal level. The answers to our questions are great, but nothing beats a good scene with a great character.
Let’s hope next week we catch back up with Locke and we get the focus off Kate. This week’s episode wasn’t a complete bust, but it was a little bit of a dissapointment.
Crap: Gun pointing, scenes of torture and some beat ‘em up stuff. Claire’s pregnant belly is shown (not a big deal for me, but I know some people care). A few D***s and H***s were used and well as a B****. Typical Lost language. It’s not good, but not abnormal for this show.
The Overall Experience score and the crap score will be averaged to together to make a recommendation from The GameTrust.

I like the comments you made. But it is cool how we are finding out about claire in this new dimension and then back on the island we find out that she is the new "rousseau." I think claire is gonna answer a lot of question and bring us back to this whole "infection thing." Is the smoke monster manipulating claire now? After the show we see that "new" Locke catches up with sawyer. Is the smoke monster gonna start using him to get "back home."Even though this episode was no season opener, I do like the way things are coming together in a sense. I mean i didn't expect to hear anything about Claire this soon. So that is what I was most excited about this episode.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I completely agree with you Nick. I see that this episode as building for what is to come in the next episodes. I really do want to see where the whole "New Rousseau" thing goes.
ReplyDeleteBTW next weeks episode looks awesome. I think we saw Sawyer falling to his doom. Who knows what's going to happen!
